Fungi at the Arboretum
Tens of thousands of organisms, from mushrooms to mould to yeast, fall under the umbrella of fungi.
Alongside our botanical collections, the variety of woodland and meadow at the Arboretum support a huge range of fungi, mosses and lichen. In August, September and October, every part of the Arboretum becomes a showcase of mycological splendour, with fungi displaying beautiful shapes and colours. However, fungi can also be spotted all year round, so keep your eyes peeled for these enigmatic gems.
Every year we celebrate UK Fungus Day at the Arboretum, usually with a fungi foray. Arboretum staff and experts from the British Mycological Society lead a walk through the Arboretum. Specialists are on hand to explain the incredible world of fungi, with examples, field guides and more. UK Fungus Day usually falls in the first week of October.
