An engaging walk and talking tour of the Literary Garden with Professor Fiona Stafford and Irish poet Bernard O'Donoghue. This area of the Walled Garden contains majestic trees and woodland plants that have inspired numerous writers over the centuries.
Fiona is Professor of English at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Somerville College. She has special interests in Romantic literature, Archipelagic literature and the cultural meanings of plants. She is also a nature writer and broadcaster, whose recent books include The Long, Long Life of Trees, The Brief Life of Flowers, and Time and Tide: The Long, Long Life of Landscape.
Bernard O'Donoghue is a scholar, poet and Emeritus Fellow of Wadham College. He has specialist interests in medieval literature, Irish literature and contemporary poetry. His recent poetry collections include Farmer's Cross, The Seasons of Cullen Church and, published in June 2025, The Anchorage.
There will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of books by Fiona, and Bernard, at the end of the Tour.
