Event description
Our coppice woodland contains birch, hazel and sweet chestnut trees. Coppicing is the annual cutting of broadleaf woodland during the winter; allowing more light and warmth to reach the woodland floor, creating ideal conditions for native flora. It results in a mosaic of differently aged woodland that can provide a wider range of habitats for a wider range of insect, bird and mammal species. Learn to manage your own sustainable timber supply using this ancient system. This is an excellent opportunity to get advice and inspiration in our beautiful woodland, which feels a world away from the city of Oxford. Please bring a packed lunch.
