Martha Swales - Winter Lecture Series

Above all, this talk is an invitation to see gardening as an endlessly creative and rewarding process, one that can help us reconnect with ourselves and the natural world at a time when many of us feel overwhelmed and disconnected. Step into a little world of your own making, and discover the joy of nourishing yourself, not just with the food you grow, but the time you give to yourself to do it.
If you already love growing food, expect to be surprised with new ideas. And if you’ve never thought gardening was for you — or don’t know where to begin — come along and be inspired.
This will be followed by a book signing of Martha’s new book, Give it a Grow.

Martha is an avid urban gardener who has been growing her own food since her early twenties and now has well over a decade of experience. She has amassed almost two million followers with her simple down to earth how to gardening guides on Instagram and TikTok. Largely focussing on growing food in small spaces, she is also passionate about gardening for wildlife and growing an abundance of flowers. Her goal is to demystify gardening and make it accessible to as many people as possible, so they can have the confidence to take advantage of whatever space they have.
Alongside her love of gardening Martha is a TV Producer and Director with a passion for cooking and has worked with some of the best loved foodies in the country. For Martha gardening and food go hand in hand, giving access to novel and exciting ingredients as well as the opportunity to make home grown produce the star of the show.

Martha studied Human Sciences at Oxford University where biological conservation was by far her favourite subject. These days her love of science and nature lives alongside her love of food in the little London garden that she fills with an abundance of flowers, wildlife and edible plants.
Her book Give it a Grow was an instant Sunday Times and Irish Times bestseller. It is a beautiful and practical guide to start growing your own slice of nature via a wonderful collection of fool-proof projects.
