The session will begin with a walk around the Arboretum collecting seeds from our wildflower meadow, and finish with an interactive demonstration of the post-harvesting handling of different species. Lewis will also discuss the importance of yellow rattle, which reduces the dominance of grasses, allowing other wildflowers to prosper. Wildflower meadows are extremely important for sustaining populations of native UK wildflowers, some of which are now vulnerable or threatened. A hands-on course which will also give you an understanding of how Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum conserves plant diversity through its seed collections and research.
