Visiting the Arboretum

We recommend pre-booking before visiting the Arboretum to ensure entry. For group bookings of more than 15 people, please make a request at least three days in advance of your visit. For all other tickets, a range of options are available, including:

Adults, Accompanied Under 16s, and Concessions.
Disabled visitors and a concessionary rate for their accompanying carer.
Free entry for Oxford University students and staff with valid ID.
Free entry for Friends members.

Harcourt Arboretum is located in Nuneham Courtenay, which is a 20 minute drive from Oxford Botanic Garden and the city centre. Visitors by car are welcome to use the on-site car park, or there is a regular bus service which offers a more sustainable alternative.

Those wanting to catch the bus can find the H4 bus stop in St Aldates (Oxford city centre), before boarding the X40 bus towards Reading. It is then just a short walk from the Baldon Lane stop to the Arboretum.

Our strategic aims are to inspire a greater appreciation of plants and the environment, to advance knowledge through research and education, and to conserve plant diversity for future generations. Your support is vital in helping us achieve these goals.

Frequently asked questions

Visitors are welcome to bring picnics with them; there are plenty of benches and picnic blankets for sale in the pod shop. Please ensure all rubbish is taken home, do not bring alcohol on site, and do not use barbecues or any naked flames as they are a fire risk.

Horsebox Coffee Co

On weekends, visitors can enjoy catering from Horsebox Coffee Co. They serve ethical, sustainable and locally roasted coffee, with a choice of beans and brews. Alongside other delicious barista-prepared drinks, you can try their legendary brownies and sweet treats from specialist local bakers.

There are toilets (including an accessible toilet and baby changing) at the main Lodge. There are also compost toilets on site.

Dogs are not permitted at the Arboretum, with the exception of assistance dogs. There is an all-terrain manual wheelchair available to use for your visit, please call ahead to book. Further access information is available in the link below.

Further Information

Add something special to your visit. From picnic blankets woven from recycled wool to traditional toys and kits for budding botanists, or maybe a good book to relax and enjoy in a shady spot beneath the trees, all are available in our unique pop-up shop next to the ticket office.
